Every year I am commissioned to paint special pieces either as gifts, or family keep-sakes. They range from pencil sketches of loved ones, to paintings of the family pet, to calligraphy for significant achievements recognized on certificates. There is something special about serving the community in this way. I've been honoured with an inside peak into the relationships and events that people hold dear.
This month I've been working on a commission for a family who wanted to celebrate their ageing mother with a painting. I was given an old black and white photocopy of a photo taken of her in high school. I was told specific details about her appearance, and then asked to translate the photo into colour to fit a beautiful red-brown oval frame. The painting to the left is what I came up with. It was a complete joy to work on.
I did something similar a few years back with a photo of my great-grandmother and wrote a blog post about it HERE.
Why not consider having a portrait done this year? They make meaningful gifts that can be passed down through generations. Simply head over to my contact page HERE and ask for a quote. :)
