A friend asked me recently what I look for in a model before I ask her to participate. If my series is about capturing feminine beauty... what qualities do I seek? A good question... although I don't think there is a formula, only feeling. I just know, and when I'm not sure, I mull it over.. until I'm sure that I either need to include them, or not.
I love great stories, and am attracted to people with wisdom that could only come from a life of trial and error; rugged experience. They're real, and honest. They usually say it like is... they are the what-you-see-is-what-you- get person. Beautiful? Maybe not to some, but speaking for myself, I never walk away from a person like that with feelings of disappointed.
Oh, and funny... I love funny! People that know how to joke, and have fun... how can you not be attracted to that?
Interesting physical features are full of beauty ... people that are unique ... a beauty all their own. People that stand out in a crowd, and don't look like every one else. I've been known to look a little too long at people like this Staring is what I think most people call it... I'm really just appreciating their beauty, and thinking about how I could capture their features in a painting... I should probably wear a t-shirt with something printed on it in my defence.
"I'm an artist and I'm staring because you're beautiful"
Besides a great story, or an emotional vulnerability, I also want to include women in this series that have beautiful physical features. That is why I chose Lori.
When I first met Lori, I thought she was exceptionally beautiful. I've had little chance to get to know her previous to this, but her confidence, and joy is evident. Her smile is radiant. Those characteristics make her physical beauty even more compelling.
She's lived an interesting life full of unique experiences. It was such an honour that she would carve out time for me to visit.
Thank you Lori, you are a beautiful addition to this project.
